Theme: Past Continuous & Past Simple (Grammar)

Сьогодні ми працювати над граматикою. Тема заняття - Past Continuous (минулий тривалий час). Ми також переглянемо правила вже вивченого нами часу Past Simple (минулий неозначений) та визначимо відмінності між цими часами. Спочатку опрацюємо нові правила, потім виконаємо декілька вправ для закріплення граматичного матеріалу. Наприкінці заняття ВСІ учні мають написати коротенький тест і відправити мені до 10 квітня. Розпочинаємо!

1. Look through the information about the Past Simple (your copybook).

Remember!
affirmative: S + V -ed/2
eg.: He went to work by car yesterday.
I visited my granny last week

negative: S + didn`t + V
eg.: I didn`t visit my granny last week
       He didn`t go to work by car yesterday.

interrogative: Did + S + V
                        QW + did + S + V
eg.: Did you visit your granny last week?
       When did he go to work by car?

2. Now read the information about the Past Continuous and write down these rules and learn them.

affirmative: S + was (I, he, she, it) / were (you, we, they) + V -ing
eg.: We were having coffee at 3 o`clock this afternoon.
He was playing football in the evening.

negative: S + wasn`t / weren`t + V -ing
eg.: We weren`t having coffee at 3 o`clock this afternoon.
       He wasn`t playing football in the evening.

interrogative: Was / Were + S + V -ing
                       QW + was / were + S + V -ing
eg. Were we having coffee at 3 o`clock this afternoon?
       Was he playing football in the evening?
       What were we doing at 3 o`clock this afternoon?
       Where was he playing football in the evening?

Time expressions!
Past Continuous: while (`в той час, як`, `поки`), when, as (так як), at that moment (в той момент), at the same time (в цей же час), all morning/the whole morning (протягом всього ранку, весь ранок ), yesterday .....
Як правило, після слова `while` вживається Past Continuous, а після `when` - Past Simple (але не завжди).
Past Continuous використовується для вираження дій, що відбувалися в конкретний, точно відомий момент або проміжок часу в минулому. Точний момент часу в Past Continuous може уточнюватися або перериватися іншою короткочасною дією, вираженою в Past Simple.
eg.: They were drinking a cup of coffee while they were sitting at that restaurant. - Вони пили каву коли сиділи в тому ресторані.
            She was cleaning the house when the phone rang - В той час, коли вона прибиралася в домі, задзвонив телефон.

3. And now let`s practice! Do excercise 2, p.192.

4. Do the following task and email it to me (Обов`язково зробити всім і вислати мені через сайт наступне завдання. Не потрібно висилати мені на пошту чи вайбер фото цієї роботи або її скрін. Отже, виконайте завдання, натисніть `Finish`, потім виберіть`Email my answers to my teacher`. Впишіть свої дані (ім'я, клас, предмет) та мою електронну адресу і натисніть `Send`. От і все!
